Who are today's veteran's? Where do they come from? What will their transition to college entail? Who are they? What issues do they face as they transition back to both civilian life and campus life? Steven will provide critical details about this population.

Dr. Perry C. Francis, Professor of Counseling at Eastern Michigan University
It is understood that mental health can be challenged while serving in the armed forces, especially in combat. Veterans come to campus with complex mental and psychological issues. How can campuses help support their academic success while also supporting their return to civilian life? What do campuses need to know about stress and anxiety disorders common among veterans due to the ordeals they encountered in combat? Perry will walk you through what you need to know about the emotional needs of today's vets and how campuses can best support and serve them.

The transition to civilian life can be just as challenging for the family as it is for veteran. What kind of initiatives, services and programs can your campus offer to family members of veterans? Richard will help participants understand the challenges families face pre- and post-deployment of a loved one and how colleges can best assist families and veterans in the multiple transitions they experience. You will take away effective strategies that colleges can use in communicating campus information, resources and services to veterans and their families.

How can faculty develop an understanding of the deployment and reintegration issues military veterans face on campus? How do the reintegration issues impact the classroom experience and how can faculty can best support veterans in the classroom? How can faculty roles as instructor, academic advisor and student organization advisor best assist veterans and their family members to succeed?

Donald Pfeffer, Director of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Higher Education Veterans Programs
How can you develop your own Veteran's Resource Center? ? Learn the steps of how to create a safe and welcoming place on campus that provides support, shares information and provides advocates for student veterans and their families. You will take away new information on how to use a Veterans Center to collaborate across campus and in the community to support students, faculty and staff as they transition into and out of military service.

The cost of the webinar is $10.
DEADLINE: The deadline for registration is Friday, February 19, 2010.
BILLING: an invoice will be sent to the individual identified on the registration form as the person to receive the invoice. Unless otherwise requested, the invoice will be sent after the event. Please obtain approval for funding prior to registering.
CANCELLATION DATE: In the event you should need to cancel your reservation, you must do so by the close of business on Friday, February 19, 2010. Registrations not cancelled by the deadline will be billed to the institution regardless of whether the registrant attends.
